About Me
As I always say, I’m just a regular black girl who loves to cook, bake, & add a twist to recipes to make them my own. I also love to write (didn’t say I was good at it). What better way to put my two loves together, than to write a cookbook, right?
Like many of you, family drives everything I do and is the reason I wrote this book. I’m the oldest of 6 and have always loved cooking and baking. I spent much of my childhood in the kitchen, by choice. I have two little brothers who weren’t as intrigued (shocker), but through the years have decided that being able to feed themselves, at their own hands, is a useful life skill they want to develop (so proud *tear*). Because of this, my sisters, my mother, and I occasionally get group chat requests asking for our recipes and how – tos. Nothing fancy, just things like “hey, what do you put in your mash potatoes?”, “how do you season your chicken?”, or “what temperature do you bake a cake on?”
It occurred to me, that there are probably a lot of people who would cook more if they just knew how to do the simple stuff. Being able to whip up an impressive dinner for friends and family is nice, but honestly, being able to feed yourself good food is just as impressive. You don’t need to know how to cook everything and it doesn’t have to be hard.
But even easy things can require a little direction and that’s where I come in – a sister, mother, friend sharing recipes for basic foods that everyday people eat. No hi-tech gadgets (unless you’ve already got ‘em), no words you can’t pronounce, just good food – STRAIGHT EATS.
There are literally millions of free cooking videos and sites out there, and I 100% encourage you to use them, I know I do. But if you need a big sister – someone who has done some of that legwork, put it all together, and is giving you simple family tested and approved recipes – this is the place, and I’m your girl.
